George Peyton Wilson
Mulhearn Funeral Home
West Monroe, Louisiana
A memorial service celebrating the life of George Peyton Wilson, 64, of West Monroe, Louisiana, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe.
Peyton was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Aline Wilson, and his brother Stephen Wilson.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 41 years, Linda Coates Wilson; daughter Kate Wilson and boyfriend Drew Rydberg; daughter Jill Courtney and husband Joel; daughter Holland Wilson and partner Andy Booth; grandson Owen Courtney; sister-in-law Kathy Wilson; and many nieces, nephews, and special cousins.
Peyton was a 1965 graduate of WMHS and 1972 graduate of NLU. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Peyton earned numerous medals for bravery and valor as a field radio operator. As a dedicated member of the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association, Peyton continued his support for veterans everywhere, participating in welcome home missions and honor guards across the state.
Peyton was a gifted musician who played the mandolin, harmonica, and guitar, and wrote, recorded, and performed original compositions to the delight of his friends and family. An outdoor enthusiast, he loved nothing better than to hit the road on either his Harley or his Goldwing and sleep in a hammock under the stars. Through his lust for life he pursued countless interests, including mycology, gourmet cooking, cycling, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, to name a few. He was a bona fide modern-day Renaissance man.
A devoted husband and caring father, Peyton had a “joie de vivre” that charmed everyone he ever met. Always cheerful and accepting, he was generous with his time, his knowledge, and his love. He especially enjoyed the camaraderie of the Rebel Lunch Bunch that met weekly at Johnny’s Pizza.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dewey Burt, Joel Courtney, Noel Johnson, Chuck Koehler, Lonnie Shows, Rob Wilson, and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA). Special thanks to CVMA and Patriot Guard riders.
Visitation will be held Thursday between 4 and 7 p.m. at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe.

“I knew someday that you would fly away
For love's the greatest healer to be found
So leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground
Fly on, fly on past the speed of sound
I'd rather see you up
Than see you down
Leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground”
