Funeral services for Anna Marie (Tornatore) DeMers, 86, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 3, 2015, in the chapel at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. James Dominic officiating. Interment will follow at St. Matthew Catholic Church Mausoleum. Anna Marie (Tornatore) DeMers was born to Jack and Anna (Farace) Tornatore in Monroe, Louisiana on April 16, 1929 and passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on July 31, 2015. Anna lived in Monroe all of her 86 years. At the age of 20 she married the love of her life, Harold Joseph (Frenchie) DeMers.Anna graduated from St. Matthew’s Parochial High School in 1949 and 6 months later married Harold. She worked at the Five & Dime stores, Woolsworth and S H Kress, as a cashier, floor lady and window decorator.She was preceeded in death by her parents, Jack and Anna Tornatore, one brother Peter J. (P.J.) Tornatore and one sister Lucille (Tornatore) LaPietra.She is survived by her husband Harold (Frenchie) DeMers, one sister Rosa (Tornatore) Crowson, one brother Salvador (Sam) Tornatore, one daughter Evelyn Ann Gilbert and her husband James Gilbert, one son Jack DeMers and his wife Judy (Ellis) DeMers all of Monroe, LA, four grandchildren Ashley Ann (Gilbert) Ussery and her husband Chris of Denham Springs, LA, Nathan Carson Gilbert and his wife Emily of Nashville, TN, Jack Christopher DeMers of Baton Rouge, LA and Patrick Ryan DeMers and his wife Chelsy of Monroe, LA, three great grandchildren Chloe Brianne Ussery, Noah Camden Ussery and Jonah Cohen Ussery.Her love for sports consisted of fishing and bowling. She served as a director for the Monroe Women’s Bowling Association for four terms under the Presidency of Margaret Lane. At the age of 80 and 60 years of marriage, she and Harold were given a celebration of life and marriage by her children Jack and Judy and Evelyn Ann and James.Serving as pallbearers are Rocky Guirlando, Zachary LaPietra, Ivo Long, Jim Ratcliff, Charles Sampognaro, Brandon Sikes.
