Anne Wooten Pierson Patten

Anne Wooten Pierson Patten of Monroe, Louisiana was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 17, 2016.
Anne was born on March 19, 1950 to Lee Slagle Pierson and Robert Hunter Pierson. Originally from Alexandria, Louisiana, she graduated from Bolton High School in 1968. She then attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge majoring in business. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.
In her professional work, Anne served as an executive assistant for Gulf Oil Company in New Orleans, Louisiana before becoming Executive Director of the Northeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1988. Her formidable organizational and people skills helped to quickly turn around the then-floundering local Red Cross chapter. Anne’s remarkable gift for fundraising enabled her to meet the extreme financial needs of the organization and her genuine love for people attracted hundreds of volunteers. For over 26 years Anne served twelve northeast Louisiana parishes through the Red Cross. During her tenure she saw our community through some of the most challenging disasters we have ever faced—from the floods of 1991, the Sterlington explosion, through the hurricanes of Katrina and Rita, with countless instances of storm, flood and fire damage in between. She viewed her service as a ministry.
Influenced profoundly by her beloved grandmother, Mrs. Anna Wooten Slagle, Anne served her community as a dedicated volunteer. She was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Colonial Dames of America, a sustaining member of the Junior League of Monroe, and the Monroe Garden Club. She served on the board of directors of the Strauss Little Theatre, the Leadership Council of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, and the board of the United Way of Northeast Louisiana. Anne was a graduate of Leadership Ouachita and Leadership Louisiana. In addition, Anne was recognized as one of DeltaStyle Magazine’s 16 Most Influential Women of the Delta.
For Anne, relationships mattered the most—the most important being her relationship with her savior Jesus Christ. She loved her family and friends deeply. She believed that encouragement, if only with a smile, was one of the greatest gifts you could give. She found joy in inspiring others of all ages. She took interest in the lives of countless individuals and their families, in their children and in their grandchildren. She was affectionately known as “Nana Anne” to many. Untold are the numbers who cherished her counsel and guidance, and who knew her as a friend and as a second mother.
However, she viewed her greatest calling to be that of a loving mother to her daughter “little Anne.” Being a good mother to little Anne and wonderful daughter to Lee were the roles she cherished above all.
Her passing follows those of her father, Robert Hunter Pierson; sister, Lee Pierson; and brothers, Pipes Pierson and Slagle Pierson; and her late husband, Charles Dewitt Patten, III.
Anne is survived by her daughter, Anne Cuthbert Patten of Dallas, Texas; mother, Lee Slagle Pierson of Monroe; sister, Pattie Pierson Plauche and husband, Stephen, of Houston, Texas; brother Hunter Pierson and wife, Cathy, of New Orleans; brother, Ransdell Pierson of New York City, New York; and a host of nieces and nephews. She also held a special place in her heart for her granddogs, Mr. Bith’Ket and Mithsis Punkin.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday December 22, 2016 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe, LA with Pastor John T. Mabry officiating. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA.
The family will receive visitors at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe from 3:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesday, December 21, 2016.
Pallbearers will be Dixon Abell, Nelson Abell, Ralph Asbury, Billy Haddad, David Hampton, L. J. Holland, Gene King, Wendell Manning, Ben Peters, Sr., and Bernard Sager. Honorary Pallbearers will be board members, executive officers, and staff of the Northeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross who served during Anne’s tenure.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Covenant Presbyterian Sanctuary Fund, 1901 Milton Street, Monroe, Louisiana 71201.
