Barbara Jean Smeby

Funeral Services for Mrs. Barbara Jean Smeby, 78, of West Monroe, LA, will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 5, 2018, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Ricky Baker officiating the services, Mike Downhour delivering the eulogy, and Rev. Bo Prather officiating the graveside services. Interment will be at Olla Cemetery.

Mrs. Smeby was born February 14, 1940 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 2, 2018. She was a member of the Light House Baptist Church. Mrs. Smeby owned and operated Barbara’s Daycare in her home. She enjoyed cooking, crafting, listening to gospel music, especially the Gaither’s, but most of all spending time with family and planning family reunions. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jayson and Vetoile Gates; and brother, Johnnie Gates.

Survivors include her four children, Jeff Smeby and wife Veronica, Marty Smeby and wife Linda, Timmy Smeby, and Brian Smeby and wife Marcie; 13 grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Samantha, Colin, Schyler, Devon, Tyler, Marty Jr, Avery, Emily, John, Luke and Cooper; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Reba Gates; brother, Hollis Gates and wife Lynn; two sisters, Kathleen Sikes and husband Mo and Jeanne Wilson and husband Joe; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and special family friends, Mike and Sheila Kay Downhour, Bill and Isabell Arnold, Stephanie Lipscomb.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Smeby, Marty Smeby Jr, Ben Talley, Jonathan Taylor, Ryland Taylor, Mike Downhour, Matt Downhour, Kenneth Abate, and Kenny Sikes.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
