Bobby Ray West

Funeral service celebrating the life of Bobby Ray West of Mountain Home, AR, and formerly of Monroe, LA will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, January 23, 2021, in the chapel of the Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe with Rev. Ricky Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Park Cemetery, Highway 80-East in Monroe. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until service time Saturday.

Bobby Ray was born January 3, 1934, and passed from this life on Monday, January 18, 2021, after a lengthy illness with Alzheimers.

Bobby worked different jobs as a young boy, among a few, he threw newspapers while riding a bike, popped the pop corn at the theater, delivered telegrams for the Western Union, even “singing telegrams”.

Later, he served in the U. S. Navy and managed to visit many adventurous places in the South Pacific.
Arriving back in the States, he discovered a desire for Law Enforcement by serving the Monroe Police Department and later the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Department. He held a high respect for our law enforcement and worked beside some of the best officers.

Bobby owned and operated AAA Glass Company in West Monroe, LA with his friends and partners, Mr. Don Meadow, Mr. Michael Burroughs, and Mr. Gordon Williams.
Bobby Ray loved his family, friends, church, and Jesus Christ. He always enjoyed fellowship. He loved fishing and motor homing and traveled on many camping trips with his friends and family.
If you missed the chance of meeting and getting to know Bobby Ray, you missed out many happy and fun times. He was always a joy to have around.

Bobby Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Robert West and Lela Evis Loflin-West. His sister, Margaret Laughman, brothers, William and Robert West.

He is survived by his wife, Shirlane, being married over 40-years. Three sons, Donnie Ray West of West Monroe, LA, Bart West of Benton, LA; and, Tommy Viola, Lake Charles, LA. Three daughters, Ramona West, Austin, TX; Julie West of West Monroe; and Stacie Retzlaff of River Ridge, LA. He has eight grandchildren, Garrett, Alec, Coley, Victoria, Sharie, Patrick, Alexander and Nicolas; and nine great-grandchildren, and brother, James West of Atlanta, GA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Samaritan’s Purse for their tiring efforts in helping those effected from hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, fires and sicknesses, as well as many other projects.
