Cecile S. Smith

June 20, 1924 — October 5, 2018

Funeral services celebrating the life of Cecile S. Smith, 94, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 8, 2018, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Tom McCurley, Rev. Milton McManus, and Rev. Ron Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Smith was born June 20, 1924, in Bernice, LA, and passed away Friday, October 5, 2018, at her residence. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served in the choir and was a dedicated children’s Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Dixie Chapter #179 Order of the Eastern Star Lodge. Cecile was a skilled seamstress and her talents were appreciated by many in Monroe.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Jo Smith Richardson; parents, Henry and Essie Smith; and sisters, Marie Fitzgerald, Joyce Albritton, and Evelyn Williams.

Survivors include her husband of 78 years, James C. (Jim) Smith; son-in-law, Rev. Ronald L. Richardson; granddaughters, Susan G. Richardson and Pamela Turner and husband John; grandson, John C. Richardson; great-grandchildren, Emilee, Jack, and Lillian Turner, and Nona and Juniper Richardson; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Pallbearers will be C. C. (Red) Garris, O. C. Watson, Charles Dean, Jimmy Vallery, John C. Richardson, and John Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Allen, Larry Fitzgerald, Clint Shepard, and Roe Morris.

The family wishes to extend many thanks to Heart of Hospice and Always Best Care – Senior Care Service for their exceptional care and compassion. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sue McGinn, Susan Cordell, and members of the Wednesday night cooking team at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for countless lovingly prepared meals and special care given to our grandparents.
