Funeral services for Mr. Charles Rucker (Chuck) Campbell, 85, of Monroe will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 25, 2010 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Father Gregg Riley officiating.

Mr. Campbell was born April 28, 1925 in Lynchberg, VA to Fanny and Benjamin Alexander Campbell and passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Campbell was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church for 20 years. He served with the United States Navy during World War II and saw action during the D-Day Invasion, when he piloted a Higgings Landing Craft onto Normandy Beach. For his actions on this day, he received numerous medals and commendations.

He was a Thirty-Second Degree Mason, a member of the Western Star and York Lodges. He was also a Noble of the Barak Shrine Temple. He was active in the American Legion, Post 13, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He took pride in his service to the ESGR (Employer Support of Guard and Reserve), a division of the Department of Defense.

Mr. Campbell was also a member and supporter of the ULM High 12 Club and enjoyed working at numerous sporting events at the University.

His family and friends meant the world to him, and brought him happiness throughout his life. He especially enjoyed spending time fishing at Lake Bruin with his grandsons and great-grandsons.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Lothian Campbell; his children, George M. Campbell and his wife Linda, of Monroe; Sheila Campbell, of Monroe; and Sherron Campbell, of Monroe. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Monica Haddock and her husband David of Baton Rouge; Catherine Creed and her husband Christian of Monroe; Allyson Young and her husband Lewis of Monroe; Mennon Campbell and his fiancée Abby Vinson of Monroe; Patrick Campbell and his wife Christina of Monroe; Adam Hergert and his wife Nicole of Springfield, IL; Victoria Torec of Orange County, CA, and his great-grandchildren: Cate and Campbell Creed and Dayton Campbell, all of Monroe; Hayden and Morgan Haddock of Baton Rouge; and Emily and Alyssa Hergert of Springfield, IL.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Masons of the Western Star Lodge #13.

Visitation will be Monday, October 25, 2010, from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with services immediately following.
