David Wayne Stuart

April 21, 1948 — October 16, 2016

Funeral services for David Wayne “Papa Dave” Stuart, of Sterlington, LA, will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 20, 2016, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA, with Rev. Bill Willis officiating. Interment will follow at Enterprise Cemetery, Union Parish, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

David went to be with Jesus, October 16, 2016, leaving behind a legacy of a life well lived and people well loved. His life reflected the values his parents instilled in him while growing up – hard work, commitment to family, and the importance of getting a good education.

David was an outstanding athlete in basketball and football at Sterlington High School. It was there he began dating his sweetheart, Dorothy (Young) Stuart, whom he married in 1969. Two years later, he joined the US Army and served his nation honorably. After returning from the Army, David graduated from NLU and got a job at Ford, Bacon & Davis where he worked until 1992. During those years, he raised two sons, never missing a chance to cheer Troy on at a ball game or to take Travis out hunting.

In 1992, David had a heart attack that nearly took his life. Thankfully, God spared him and used that event to grow him spiritually. He began teaching an adult Sunday school class at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Sterlington. He loved the people in his class and taught them faithfully for 24 years.

There were many joys in David’s life. He enjoyed hunting deer and was a long time member of 10 Mile Creek Hunting Club. He took great delight in catching and cooking white perch, eating a fully loaded chili dog, and watching football. Laughing and shooting the breeze with friends brought David immense joy. Every moment Papa Dave spent Skyping, playing games, and going bowling with his grandsons warmed his heart. One of his greatest treasures was taking cruises with his beloved Dot. Above all else, David loved his family.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Ramsey and Margie Stuart; his wife’s parents, Edgar and Betty Young; and his granddaughter, Ellie Franklin Stuart.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stuart; his sons, Troy Stuart and wife Tanya; and Travis Stuart; grandchildren, Jadon, Jonas, and Jesse Stuart; and his brothers, Charles Stuart and wife Shirley; and Milton “Pero” Stuart and wife Robin.

We will miss you, Big Dave.
