Private family memorial services for Mr. Donald Ray Lawrence, age 65, of Winnsboro will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Winnsboro.
Donald Ray Lawrence slipped into the arms of Jesus, Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Legacy Nursing Home in Winnsboro, LA. He was born April 2, 1955 to the union of Eugene Aldridge Lawrence and Onis Lenell Dollar. He is preceded in death by his father, his sister, Jerry Mock and his brother, Robert Arnold Lawrence.
He is survived by his mother, two brothers, Johnnie Eugene Lawrence (Penny) and Ronald Loyd Lawrence (Dianne); three sisters, Judy C. Mock (James), Joyce Lawrence, and Jennifer Earnst (Mike), and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Donald brought so much joy to all he met. He loved to go to church and read the Bible and sing hymns. Though Donald was born a preemie, blind and mentally handicap, he had great spiritual insight. He believed in Jesus and John the Baptist. He could quote scripture and his favorite song was Peace in the Valley. He always asked for the Bible to be read, and he would spontaneously burst out singing songs like, “How Great Thou Art” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. One day at the nursing home while several of his caregivers were gathered around his bed, he burst out singing, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty”! He was a joy!
Donald Ray Lawrence was waiting for Jesus to come get him. One day, after we read John chapter 14, where Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you, and I will come and receive you unto myself”, I told Donald “Look, Jesus is building a house for you, Donald, and one for me too. He’s coming back to get us! Donald said, “When?!” I said “When he gets ready, he will come get us.” Donald said, “Will we be back for lunch?” I laughed and said, “No, Donald when we go to live with Jesus we are not coming back to the nursing home!” After that, Donald told me on several occasions, “I’m going to live with Jesus.” Then Sunday night, he quietly slipped out and left us here. He’s gone to live with Jesus and John the Baptist. We love you Donald.
Things Donald loved, Deborah Pierce, his sitter at the nursing home, peanut brittle, potato salad, fried okra, chicken nuggets and fries from McDonalds’s and ice cream cones.
