Dr. William Holmes Causey, Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at St Francis Hospital on December 31st, 2014. “Papa” to all of his many grandchildren and family, and “Doc” to his many friends in Shreveport, lived a long life of distinguished service to his fellow man. Born in Shreveport, La on April 1st, 1917, Papa graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1934, then Centenary College and enlisted in the US Navy in 1945, serving in WWII in the Pacific in 1945-46. Papa’s career as an Optometrist in Shreveport began in 1949 and he retired (finally) at the age of 85 in 2002, moving to Monroe, La to be closer to his growing family in Northeastern Louisiana. “Doc” to those he knew and worked with in Shreveport was regarded simply as the best in his profession, highly thought of by his peers and professionals alike. An avid fisherman of Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn, Saline Lake and Black Lake, Doc never tired of talking “fishing” to anyone who would listen. He was also well known and respected within the Masonic Lodge having achieved the 32nd degree as a member of the Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Shrine in Shreveport.
