Earl E. “Gene” HodgkinsFuneral services for Earl E. “Gene” Hodgkins, age 90, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at North Monroe Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Fowler and Reverend Warren Eckhardt officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM at Kilbourne Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe.Mr. Hodgkins died Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Grace Home in Shreveport, Louisiana.Mr. Hodgkins was born February 7, 1924, at Jennie, Arkansas. He graduated from Kilbourne High School, obtained a BS from LSU, an MS from LSU, and a PhD from LSU. He retired from LSU Agriculture Center after 35 years of service. Gene then worked in agriculture missions in 17 countries, most recently with the IMB in Croatia. Gene was also a WWII Veteran, having served in the US Navy from 1942 until 1946 in an Argus Unit in the South Pacific. Gene was an active member of Sunday School and a Deacon at North Monroe Baptist Church. His enjoyment was people. He always enjoyed breaking bread and sipping coffee with people wherever he was. Mr. Hodgkins was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Elizabeth Rutherford and Edgar Grambry Hodgkins; and his siblings May Pierce, Edgar Hodgkins, Alex Hodgkins, Charlie Hodgkins, Harold Hodgkins, Clarence Hodgkins, Fannie Marshalek and Annie Pearson.Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lolita Perez Hodgkins; children, Elaine Bradford and husband David, Skeet Hodgkins and wife Judy, and Mark Hodgkins; grandchildren, Jerry Bradford, Gina Ayerdis, Adam Bradford, Ashley Elliott, Ryan Hodgkins, Mary Olinde, Brad Hodgkins and Matt Hodgkins; great grandchildren, Isabella Bradford, Preston Ayerdis, Phelan Bradford, Ashton Bradford, Maddox Ayerdis, Lucy Bradford, Nolan Bradford, Ayden Bradford and Declan Bradford; brother, Vic and wife Bille Hodgkins; brother-in-law, Leo Perez; sisters-in-law, Dean Hodgkins and Buddye Hodgkins.Pallbearers will be Jerry Bradford, Ryan Hodgkins, Bill Hodgkins, Steve Hodgkins, Charles Hodgkins, and Eddie Hodgkins.
