Funeral Services for Mrs. Ellen Best Yancey, 91, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 28, 2007, in the Chapel of Parkview Baptist Church, Monroe, Louisiana with the Reverend Terry Barnes officiating. Visitation will be in the Chapel of Parkview Baptist Church from 10:00 AM until the service time. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park, Monroe, Louisiana, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Road.

Ellen, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and daughter, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007, at St. Francis North Medical Center. She was born in Whiteville, North Carolina and lived there until her family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where she continued living until she met Dr. Cyril T. Yancey during WWII. They married and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1945, and then to Monroe in 1946. She was a member of the Junior League of Monroe, the Monroe Garden Club, the Fort Miro Chapter of DAR, and the Ouachita Parish Medical Auxiliary. Ellen was a faithful and active member of both First Baptist Church and Parkview Baptist Church in Monroe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Cyril T. Yancey, parents, Harriet Harrell Best and John Thomas Best, two brothers, Joseph Thomas Best, William Vann Best, and sister, Mary Best Hammond.

Survivors include her daughter, Constance Yancey Haddox and husband, James Haddox, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her wonderful friend and caregiver, Ida Evans, along with all her many friends whom she lifted up with her style, wit, and humor.

Pallbearers will be Langston Yancey, Read Yancey, Jeffrey Best, Paul Best, Tommy Best, and Hollis Venable. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Burchall Liles, Dr. Robert Wood, Dr. Doyle Hamilton, Mr. Ron Robertson, Mr. Steve Swander, Mr. Dallas Webb, Mr. Steve Cox, and in his memory, Mr. Bill Dent.
