Eugene 'Gene' Cox

Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. Eugene “Gene” Cox, 85, of Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the College Place Baptist Church in Monroe, LA with Rev. Stan Wyant and Dr. Greg Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LAMr. Cox died August 22, 2016 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.Gene was a longtime member of College Place Baptist Church in Monroe, LA. In the early years he worked for Ivy Smith College Grocery and in 1962 acquired the business. He was an avid supporter of ULM Athletics. Gene Cox grocery was known for is fine meats he provided to all of his loyal customers. He loved his wife, children and sisters, and they all knew he was a St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Fan and a very avid story teller.Survivors: his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Bonnie W. Cox; Sons, Greg Cox and wife, Sandra, and Stan Cox; Grandchildren, William Cox, Doug Cox, Gregory Cox, Anna Wood and husband, Denny, Katie Stennett and husband, Trevor, and Taylor Cox; One Great Grandchild and 3 Step-Great Grandchildren; 3 Sisters, Betty Feazel and husband, Les, Virginia Greer and Sherri Chastaine and husband, Mark; and numerous nieces, nephews, and family members.Honorary pallbearers will be Benny and Robert Washam.Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.
