A service of celebration for the life of Mrs. Gertrude Brauer Smith, 92, will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 4, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church, Monroe, LA with Dr. Allison Moody officiating. Interment will be by family ceremony at the Columbarium in the Memorial Garden of First Presbyterian Church under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mrs. Smith was born December 30, 1914 in Corpus Christi, TX and passed away July 24, 2007 in Monroe. Mrs. Smith loved gardening, cooking and spending time with her extended family. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, the Monroe Garden Club, and a volunteer for the Louisiana Training Institute. An avid animal lover, she was also a member and volunteer for the Ouachita Humane Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert (Bill) Smith; and sister, Alice Brauer Carbrey.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her nephew, William Lee Carbrey, Jr. and wife Marguerite of Slidell, LA; niece, Elizabeth Carbrey Weaver and husband Ron of Georgetown, TX; grandnieces, Caitlin, Kristin, and Caroline Carbrey, and Erin and Anna Weaver; and brother-in-law, Lee Carbrey, Sr. of Monroe, as well as numerous other friends.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ouachita Humane Society.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Louise Lovelady, Pearlie Hutcherson, Diane Haskins, Margaret Banks, and all the staff of Home Assistance Services for all their care and kindness during the past few years.
