Harvey Lloyd Lewis

June 17, 1929 — September 12, 2019

A memorial service celebrating the life of Harvey Lloyd Lewis, Sr., 90, of West Monroe will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 16, 2019 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe LA with family members sharing special memories and stories, poems and scripture readings.

Lloyd died September 12, 2019 at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City, LA.

Lloyd was a retired commercial refrigeration mechanic and proprietor of Lloyd Lewis Commercial Refrigeration. He was a lifelong hunter and fisherman, and shared lasting memories with his family and friends at the family's camp on "the beautiful D'arbonne". He greatly enjoyed music, especially classical selections. He was a United States Naval Veteran and served on the USS Orleck DD886 at the end of WWII. He was an active member of the USS Orleck Association and Naval Museum in Lake Charles, LA. He was especially proud of his naval service and traveled to Orange, TX in 2000 to welcome the Orleck on it's return to the United States from the Turkish government. In 2010, Lloyd again visited the USS Orleck when it was moved to Lake Charles, LA and opened as the museum.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; daughter, Sharon Burris; son, H.L. (Butch) Lewis, Jr.; son-in law Jeff Armstrong; grandson, Jacob Armstrong; his sisters Elaine Newton, Bea Mann, Hazel Kober; and brother, Stanley Lewis.

Survivors: daughters, Dianne Lyons (Charlton) and Debbie Armstrong; special nephew, Fred Newton (Shelby); grandchildren, Amanda Bingham (Shane), Lewis Lyons (Carly), Parker Lyons (Jess), Paige Ewing (Michael), Jessica Curran (Liam), Chris Lewis (Kaitlyn), Havard Lyons (Nellie), Alden Murphy, Peter Lyons (Michael), great grandchildren: Alden Lyons, Alexis Barnes, Brianna Dolphin, Avery Ewing, Charlotte Ewing, Brooklyn Curran, Baby Boy Curran (born, 09/13/19), Sophia Lewis, Stafford Lyons, Ross Murphy, Grant Murphy; nieces Glenda Edwards, Rita Cory, Sandi Herrington; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Grandsons will honor their grandfather as pallbearers.

Lloyd's family will greet friends immediately following the service at a reception at Mulhearn's.

Memorial gifts to commemorate Lloyd's life may be made to his favorite charitable organizations, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or USS Orleck Naval Museum, Lake Charles, LA
