Hattie Jean Elmore

October 23, 1931 — August 30, 2021

Hattie Jean Elmore, age 89, was called home peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday August 30th, 2021, with her son Butch and her granddaughter Devin by her side while in hospice care at Henrico Doctors Hospital in Richmond, VA.
Jean was born October 23rd, 1931, in Start, Louisiana to Ray and Maggie Watts. She married her loving and devoted husband of 51 years E. D. Elmore in 1960. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2011 and will be buried by his side in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Elmore was also preceded in death by her parents Ray Holton and Maggie Dee Watts. She was the youngest and only survivor of her four siblings; Doris Petty, Ray Watts, Jr., Laverne Sullivan and Marzelle Lowery.
Mrs. Elmore is survived by her two sons, Joel O “Butch” Elmore of Richmond, VA, Phillip Ray Elmore and wife Kathy of Bella Vista, Arkansas. She had 5 grandchildren; Alex Bradley Elmore and wife Angela of Mechanicsville, VA, Devin Elmore Mauzy and husband Thaxton of Charlotte, NC, Benjamin Ray Elmore and wife Kathy of Tavernier, Florida, Daniel Ray Elmore of Tavernier, Florida, and Holten Ray Elmore and wife Sarah of Bella Vista, Arkansas; 8 great grandchildren Tucker Earl Elmore, Maiya Holladay, Annabelle Holladay, Jayden Ronhovde, Hampton Joel Mauzy, Hudson Bennett Mauzy, Cailyn Mackenzie Elmore and Austin Ray Elmore.
Mrs. Elmore was a life-long friend to many including Aldis Davis, who passed away in 2018 and Deanie Baker, of Monroe, LA. We have heard many stories of their great times together especially on their travels. She loved her long-time friends she called her Birthday Luncheon Group while living in Monroe, LA – Betty Jane Cannon, Julia Kelly, and Mildred McMichael. In 2016, Jean moved to be near her son and grandchildren/great grandchildren in Richmond, VA. She was a resident of the Verena at the Glen in Glen Allen, VA for a few years where she met some great friends Tommie Roberts and Ruth Green. Mrs. Elmore lived her last few years with her son Butch. She had a wonderful caregiver, Ms. Ann Blagmon, and a precious neighbor, Carol Jean Bottoms, that were dear to her.
Jean Elmore was known for being a social butterfly who loved to entertain, throw parties, and be the life of the party herself. She was known to win a few golf tournaments at the Bayou Desiard Country Club back in her day. On Sundays, you could always find her in her Sunday School class or sitting in the sanctuary of the former College Place Baptist Church. Mrs. Elmore was a special lady - wife, daughter, sister, Aunt Jean and was known as “Ma Maw” to her grandchildren/great-grandchildren. Most of all, she is known to be there for her friends and family when they needed her.
She will be missed by numerous family members and friends who understood Jean Elmore as a feisty, caring, and funny lady.
Visitation will be Friday, September 10th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Due to COVID 19, and the desire to keep everyone safe, there will be a graveside service for family and close friends at Mulhearn Memorial Park on Saturday, September 11th at 11:00 AM with Britt Dupree, from her extended family, who will be officiating as Pastor of Central Missionary Baptist Church in Bastrop, Louisiana.
