Funeral Services Celebrating the Life of Mrs. Helen M. Montgomery, 77, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 1, 2020, at Hasley Cemetery Pavilion, West Monroe, with Rev. Neil Oldham officiating. Interment will follow in the Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe, LA.

Mrs. Montgomery was born in Vallejo, CA, to Robert and Ruth Nichols on June 21, 1942. She was the youngest of two girls. Helen resided in Vallejo until her late teens, when she moved to San Francisco, CA and attended St. Mary’s College. She studied transcribing and shorthand and then went to work for the US Forest Service, where she was a secretary in charge of recording and keeping track of forest fires in the state of California. Mrs. Montgomery later moved to Fremont, CA, where she settled down to raise a family. Helen stayed at home to raise her children until they were of school age. During this time, she volunteered as a yard duty teacher. She went back to school and received her AA while working as a teacher’s assistant. Helen later worked for Pacific Bell and then transitioned into AT&T. She retired from AT&T in 2010 after 25 years of service. Bob and Helen made the trek to settle down in West Monroe, LA, in July of 2014. They soon became members of the Cypress Street Church of God. She loved the church and would often volunteer her time in the “Card Ministry” and joined a group that would go and sing hymns to the elderly. Helen was a 5-year breast cancer survivor who had a heart of gold and loved everyone and was loved by all. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth Nichols and by her sister, Mary Rush.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Montgomery; children, Michael Bush, Cheryl Price and husband, Chadd, Laura Johnson and husband, Bill, and Richard Montgomery and wife, Lena; grandchildren, Dereck Ruane, Aly Johnson, Adam Johnson and wife, Kelly, Abi Price, J.R.
