Hollis C. “Wheat” Nelson, 82Funeral services for Hollis C. “Wheat” Nelson, 82, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Monroe with Dr. Craig West and Dr. Alan Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe.Mr. Nelson was born July 23, 1932, in Heflin, Louisiana to George Bert Nelson and Hermie McDonald Nelson. He passed from this life on December 28, 2014, in Monroe, Louisiana, where he had made his home for the past forty-nine years. Mr. Nelson served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by United Gas Pipeline, Shreveport, Louisiana in 1954. The company was sold several times during his career and he retired with Louisiana Gas Service (now Atmos Energy) in 1994. Mr. Nelson was a member of the First Baptist Church, Monroe, where he served as deacon. He also served in many other capacities over the years.Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Elton Nelson and sister, Ivanell Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Orr Nelson; daughters, Michele Robinson and husband Bill; Cindy Price and husband Kirby; Maureen Rutherford and husband Mark; Darlene Duncan and husband Mike; grandchildren Emily Boatright, John Boatright, Sarah Raymond and husband Daniel, Claire Chauvin and husband William, Brad Price and wife Hollie, Amy Sawyer and husband Mike, Allison Cates; great grandchildren, Caroline, William and Elizabeth Jane Raymond; Larkin, Ella and Marin Price; Claire and Will Sawyer; and Hannah Cates; brother, Donald Nelson and wife Billie; and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be family members. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church, Monroe. Visitation will be held from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM, Tuesday, December 30, 2014, in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, Louisiana.
