James L. Whitman, Jr.

April 21, 1952 — November 30, 2018

James Lemoin Whitman, Jr. (Jimmy), 66, passed away at his home on November 30, 2018. Jimmy was born in Shreveport, LA, on April 21, 1952. He was raised in Rayville, LA. He graduated from Rayville High School in 1970. He attended Louisiana Tech University, left school briefly to join the United States Air Force Reserve and returned to school receiving his degree in 1975. He was a member of the Eta Zeta chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity, where he served as pledge trainer. He fondly remembered the men in his pledge classes and made lifelong friendships. He worked in Monroe, LA, in several financial positions. He began his career at the Federal Land Bank, later was Executive Vice President at People’s Homestead, and started his own business Delta Assets Management and Delta Property Management. His last employment was with the Jamaican Redevelopment Foundation, Inc.
Jimmy was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Richardson Whitman; and his mother, Sue Shaughnessy Whitman.
Survivors: Sons, Trey Whitman and wife, Sarah, Hollis Venable and wife, Lana, and Carl Venable and wife, Ashley; 8 Grandchildren, Kate and Lane Whitman, Evan, Elise and Garrett Venable, and Isabell, Caroline and Carly Venable; Father, James L. Whitman, Sr.; Sister, Jaynie Hare; Brother, Allen Whitman; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 3, 2018, at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Rayville, LA, with Rev. Walt Friese officiating. Interment will follow in Rayville Masonic Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville, LA. Visitation will be Monday from Noon until service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be John Jordan, Jack Laird, Don Cumpton, Robert McBroom, Drexel Boggs, Jeff Adams, Malcolm Maddox, and Mike Graham.

Memorials may be made to St. David’s Episcopal Church.

The family would like to express its sincere thanks and gratitude to Debbie Jones, Erica White, and James Booker for the excellent care of Jimmy.

Many will miss his entertaining “tall tales”, his jokes, his grin, and his quick wit. May he reunite with Carolyn and his soul be at peace and rest.
