Jeri G. Smith

Funeral services for Jeri G. Smith, 85, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 21st, 2017, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Road with Rev. Bruce Rux officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM until services begin. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Eudora, AR and grew up in the Shiloh Community. She graduated from Fountain Hill High School in Arkansas. She met the love of her life, William P. “Bill” Smith in Oak Ridge, LA. They married in 1951 and lived in Oak Ridge until Bill accepted a position with Centurylink and they moved to Monroe. They were married for 62 years until his death in 2013. She was a loving dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She volunteered in numerous charitable organizations throughout her life and had a love of gardening. Although she was an avid LSU Tiger fan, she also stayed loyal to her Arkansas Razorbacks. Mr. and Mrs. Smith enjoyed many years traveling and spending time with their numerous friends. Mrs. Smith passed away Saturday, February 18th, 2017, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Jewel and Mae Gardner, her husband William P. “Bill” Smith, and her daughter, Jeri Lynne Smith.
Survivors include her son, W. Gardner Smith and his wife Carol Ann; granddaughters, Brooke Smith (Doug Smith) and their children, Rylee and Rhys, Kristi Hudgins (Jesse Hudgins) and their children, Analyn, Khristian and Paisley, Laine Shemwell; grandsons, Chase Smith, John Flemister, Matthew Squyres; nephews, Bill Gibbons, Terry Smith, Jim Spell, Harvey Spell, Brad Pollock, Stan White, Steve White, and Mark Malloy; nieces, Paula Phillips, Dana Smith, Linda Sims and Shellye Timmons; and her beloved sisters, Marie White and Helen Malloy.
Pallbearers will be Chase Smith, Jesse Hudgins, Doug Smith, Matthew Squyres, Greg Fincher, Stan White and Steve White. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Venable, Mike Venable, Eddie Gallegos, Bill Gibbons, Jerry Kelly, Charles White, Otis Paul Malloy and Charles Dunaway.
The family extends our sincere appreciation to all her home health nurses and therapists, especially Nicole Antis, Cynthia Riles and Shelley Randall.
Memorials may be made to Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Graceminister Presbyterian Church.
