Jerry G Morris

November 15, 1960 — August 9, 2019

Jerry G. Morris of West Monroe, went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on August 9, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. A time of visitation with family and friends will be held at First Baptist Church in Monroe, 201 St. John St., from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday on August 17, 2019. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow with Jerry’s lifelong friend, Steven Wade officiating, assisted by Jerry’s mission trip Buddy, John Paul Jenkins and Bro. James Doughty. Arrangements are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.
Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Joel Barron, Michael Barron, Richie Grant, Jimmy Morris, Mike Middleton, and David Morris, as well as XMA teammate and friend, Randy Pierce.
Being the baby of the Morris family, Jerry was known as “Stinky” by his siblings, but “Papaw” to his precious grandchildren. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, papaw, and friend.
Jerry was skilled in many areas of life. In his life he worked on an oil rig, worked as a commercial painter, was an x-ray tech, and lastly worked as an embalmer and funeral director for several funeral homes. He was an avid outdoorsman, and thoroughly enjoyed many activities such as hiking, caving, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, and camping. He also loved traveling and making memories with his family.
Jerry studied God’s word and knew it well. He wasn’t perfect but was forgiven. He deeply loved his Lord and tried to be a good “foot soldier,” having served in some dangerous areas in Southeast Asia for 14 years, taking the Gospel. His greatest passion was going to remote areas to share the good news and make an impact for God’s Kingdom.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Benford and Mary Morris; infant brothers, Huey and Terry; and father-in-law, Louis DeCelle, Jr.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 15 years, Becky Morris; 5 children, Nathan Morris and wife Alicia, Christopher Guice and wife Allison, Kendall Guice and wife Michelle, Kasey Guice, and Kelly Guice-Pepper. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Lexi, Maggie, John, Connor, Adalyn, Tabor, and Sawyer; 4 siblings, Joyce Barron and husband Alvin, Jim Morris, Donna Small and husband Donnie, and Tony Morris and wife Carol; 2 brothers-in-law, Jerry DeCelle and wife Mary, and Darryl DeCelle and wife Sandra; his mother-in-law and prayer warrior, LaVerne DeCelle; numerous other relatives, friends and church family.
Jerry requested any memorials be made to XMA (Extreme Missionary Adventures) at 16 Pierce Rd, Rayville, LA 71269 or to the Gideons to further the Kingdom of God. Memorials may also be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at PO. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
