John Carlo Scalia

A Funeral Mass for John Carlo Scalia, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Rev. Job Edathinatt officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe.

John Carlo Scalia, better known to family and friends as JC, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018, in his home as he wished, and surrounded by family and friends. He had been hospitalized since December 4, first at Glenwood and then at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He returned home on Saturday, February 24, just one month after his 80th birthday, where he was cared for by his family and hospice.

JC was born in Beaumont, Texas in the family home on Victoria Street on the 24th of January 1938, to Frank R and Mary D Scalia. He was the third son and the fifth child. He lived in Beaumont until 1944, when his family moved to Monroe, Louisiana, where he first attended St Matthew parochial school, and then Neville High School, from where he graduated. He also attended Northeast Louisiana State University (now the University of Louisiana Monroe). JC had a long career in business in Monroe with Exxon Oil as a service station operator, and owner. Later, he began a second career with American General Insurance, first as an agent and then as a regional/district manager. A position he held until he retired.

JC was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, his two sisters Rosalie and Rita and his brothers-in-law, Arnold Tucker and Richard (Dick) Morrison, as well as his sister-in-law JoAnn Scalia. He was also predeceased by a son-in-law Mike Reneau.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Hightower Scalia and his children Pam Cummins (Scott), Traci Reneau, Leigh Turnage (Mark), John Carlo Scalia, Jr (Ann) and grandchildren Lennon, Zachary and Connor Inabnet, Trenton Thompson, Madison, Kashmir and India Scalia, as well great-grandson, Brandon Neathery, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers, Roy J and Frank V Scalia (Marilou), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers Lennon, Zachary and Connor Inabnet, Trenton Thompson, Brandon Neathery, Jeff Coon, Frank E. Scalia, Dr. Steven Scalia, and David Scalia. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Gregory Scalia, Dr. Collins Coon, Jay Coon, Pat Anderson, Stuart Hill, Joe D. Guerrerio, Jordan Turnage, J. Norman Coon, Corey Coon, and Harold Young.

Visitation will be from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM and a Vigil Wake Service at 6:00 PM Wednesday at Mulhearn Funeral Home.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Frank E. and Myra Scalia for their extraordinary care of our dad while at Arkansas Heart Hospital.
