January 29, 1967 — February 1, 2020

Memorial services for John David Scott, 53, of West Monroe, will be held at 3:00PM Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at Harvest Assembly of God Church in West Monroe, LA with Rev. Gary Sapp, Mr. Malcolm Dickerson, and Rev. Jeff Scott officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe. Visitation will be from 1:00PM until service time Wednesday, at the Church.

John David Scott was born on January 29, 1967, in Fayetteville, AR to David Dale Scott and Dora Evelyn Otwell Scott. He passed away February 1, 2020, at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport. The Scott family lived in Fayetteville from 1967- 1972; Osceola, AR from 1972-1974; Manhattan, KS from 1974-1978; Monroe, LA, Delhi, LA, Rayville, LA, and Start, LA from 1978 until recently. Wherever John lived, he immediately had friends.

As a child John loved participating in football, basketball, and baseball. When his family moved to Monroe in 1978, John attended Jack Hayes Elementary and graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1985. He attended LA Tech and NLU before joining his dad in the family agricultural chemical business in Delhi, LA. Again, he made many friends in the chemical industry. In 1992, he married Denise Fontana and became a family member and friend to the Italian family. He always enjoyed their gatherings. The loves of his life were his two children, Hayden and Hayley. He supported them in every activity, whether it be a church, school, or community activity. John was so proud that Hayden will graduate from LSU in May 2020 and that Hayley will graduate in May 2021 from ULM Nursing School.

At the age of 12, John was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, but he continued to live life to the fullest until he had a stroke in 2017, which affected his vision. John acquired a German Shepherd puppy to be trained as his service dog. John and Hank became inseparable.

John dealt with alcoholism for several years but was miraculously set free from it in 2015. Since that time, he grew spiritually in the Assembly of God faith. He attended Harvest Assembly of God. He and his mother enjoyed their time together serving the Lord. He is now enjoying the ultimate worship service.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his dad, Dr. David Dale Scott; paternal grandparents, Paul Albert and Martha Jane Scott; paternal aunt and uncle, Kenneth and Clara Emerson; maternal granddad, James Jack Otwell; maternal uncle, James Lawson Brewer, Jr.; maternal cousin, James Lawson Brewer, III.

Acts 20:24
But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
