John Kenneth Francis

May 31, 1971 — September 29, 2016

A celebration of the life of Dr. John Kenneth Francis of Monroe, Louisiana, was held Sunday, October 2, with over one hundred family and friends in attendance. John passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2016. His remains will be interred in North Carolina, near the home of his parents.
Born in Hinsdale, Illinois, on May 31, 1971, John was 45 years old. He was the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and also an Associate Professor of Economics for the Louisiana Tech University College of Business.
John was highly accomplished, having earned a BA in Economics from the University of Illinois and a PhD in Economics from Michigan State University. He was admired for his skills in mathematical economics and was widely published in his field.
John was a loving husband and son, a wonderful friend, and a dedicated professional. But he was also an excellent musician, playing bass guitar in several bands over the years and across the miles; a dog lover (especially Kayla, Bear and Freddy); a college football fanatic; and a great cook who loved to share his creations with guests.
Remaining to mourn his loss and rejoice in his life are his wife, Christy Bufford Francis of Monroe; his parents, George Elwyn Francis and Adrienne Lynn Knox Francis of Huntersville, North Carolina; his sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Robert Taffet, with niece Sophia and nephew Sammy; as well as numerous in-laws and countless friends.
Those wishing to remember John through charitable donations are invited to give memorials to the charity of their choice.
