John Ray Cameron

October 9, 1929 — July 20, 2020

John Ray Cameron, 90, passed away July 20, 2020, surrounded by his family. John was born October 9, 1929, in Forest, MS and moved to West Monroe in 1949, to work for the Nehi Bottling Company. While working for Nehi he met his wife who he celebrated 70 years of marriage with on July 16, 2020. John proudly served his country as military police in the Marines during the Korean Conflict and returned to Monroe to enjoy 2 careers. He worked 30 years at Selig Manufacturing Company (later Simmons Furniture) as plant manager and upon retirement began his second career in security for Saint Francis Medical Center for over 25 years.

John is preceded in death by grandson, Jason Paul Cameron; parents, Herbert Archibald and Julia Margaret Cameron; sister, Viva Cromer.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadean; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Cindy Cameron of West Monroe, Vincent and Kalon Cameron of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Jonathan and Courtney Cameron of Fort Worth, TX, Julia and Nathan Zeagler of West Monroe, Emily Hebert and Christian Cameron of Brandon, MS; great grandchildren, Charlotte Reine, Josiah Paul and Aveline Joy Cameron of Fort Worth, TX; sister, Lucille Jordan of Oak Ridge, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family service was held on July 23, 2020 with grandson, Jonathan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials or cards of condolences be sent to The Jason Paul Cameron Foundation, P. O. Box 2474, West Monroe, LA 71294.
