John Wayne Holtzclaw

March 9, 1934 — April 23, 2018

Funeral services for John Wayne Holtzclaw, 84, of Monroe, will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, April 27, 2018 at Highland Park Baptist Church in Monroe with Rev. Larry Linson officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens in West Monroe. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 AM Until 12:00 noon at the church.
Mr. Holtzclaw was born March 9, 1934 in Ruston, LA, and passed away Monday, April 23, 2018. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana University and served 33 years in the United States Army. After retirement he became a founding member of the Retired Enlisted Association. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church for 60 years. Mr. Holtzclaw was the Project Manager and Lead Designer of the Architect’s Apartment Association overseeing projects throughout Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi for Paul F. Stewart Architects. He was an avid motorcyclist throughout his life and served as Director and Chapter President of the Goldwing Riders Association, President of the North Louisiana Motorcycle Touring Association and was a Charter Member of the HOG riders group. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. Those that knew him well would describe him as a very intelligent man with great moral integrity.
Mr. Holtzclaw was preceded in death by his parents, John Parker and Eunice Hammons Holtzclaw.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Holtzclaw; four children, Joni Turner and husband Joel, Jay Holtzclaw and wife Le, Jamie Patterson and husband Darren, Kristy Ritchie and husband Steven; three grandchildren, Danielle Hart and husband Whit, Tyler Ritchie, Jake Ritchie and one great grandchild, Dylan Hart; one brother, Robert Holtzclaw, and two sisters, June Holtzclaw and Linda Weeks. Mr. Holtzclaw left behind a multitude of friends for which he left a lasting impression of his kindness and gentle nature.
Pallbearers will be Whit Hart, Darren Patterson, Steven Ritchie, Tyler Ritchie, Jake Ritchie and James “Squeaky” Spiers.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the caregivers who so generously gave of their time and sincerity in caring for Mr. Holtzclaw.
