Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce W. Strickland, 79, of Monroe, will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, November 24, 2007, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Rev. Paul Sabin officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Strickland was born in Kingsland, AR on January 2, 1928 and passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007, after a long illness. She attended high school in Crossett, AR and worked many years in Crossett until she married her husband, Jay, who was in the construction business. They lived many places before settling down in Monroe with their own company where she worked as secretary and bookkeeper. She was also the former owner of a nursery in West Monroe and for a short time was secretary for a Judge in District Court. She was proficient at each job. She loved her flowers and loved sharing them with friends, nurturing all to perfection, friends and flowers. She will be missed by many friends who all loved her.
Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her father, Jo West of Crossett, AR; and daughter, Lynn "Bea" Gorman.
Survivors include her husband, Jay Strickland; one son, Steve Jones and wife Debbie; four grandchildren, Sandy Cribbs, Jennifer Wheelis and husband Lee, Scott Jones, and Jared Jones; two great grandchildren, Connor Wheelis, and Caden Cribbs, all of West Monroe; granddaughter, Randi Matuszek and husband John; great grandson, Jace Gorman, all of Texas; her mother, Mrs. Edna West of Crossett, AR; one brother, Herman West and wife Lois of Texas; brother-in-law, Leon H. Strickland of Savannah, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Memorials may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church or to the Parkinson Association.
