Kathryn Mae (Stott) Hutton

Funeral Services for Mrs. Kathryn Mae (Stott) Hutton, 84, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Graceminster Presbyterian Church in Monroe, LA, with Rev. Bruce Rux officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the church.

Kathryn Mae (Stott) Hutton, born February 18, 1934, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, died November 26, 2018, in Monroe, Louisiana. Kathy lived fifty wonderful years with her husband (a deceased family practice physician in Monroe), where they raised three children and became valuable members of the medical community. Kathy was a graduate of Bagley High School (Tahlequah, OK), after which she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Hillcrest Medical Center (Tulsa, OK) and a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist from Charity Hospital (New Orleans, LA).

For almost forty years, Kathy worked as a CRNA in both New Orleans and Monroe, including Ochsner’s Hospital (New Orleans), Glenwood Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and E.A. Conway Hospital, where she retired. Kathy also worked as a home health nurse in Monroe for several years, but her primary focus was on providing patient care when giving anesthesia to surgical patients.

In addition to her medical pursuits, Kathy was a devout church elder on the Session and Women of the Church at Westminster/Graceminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for over 53 years. Kathy was actively involved in almost every aspect of church, including teaching children’s Sunday School classes, hosting church parties, decorating for the holidays, and organizing upcoming events. Her pursuits outside of work and church also included a love of gardening and art. She spent countless hours planting and growing beautifully landscaped yards at home and at church, always noticing the splendor of the natural world around her. She also sought to capture this beauty in her watercolor and oil paintings, taking time to learn new techniques and enjoy years of art classes with her numerous friends. Kathy relished the friendships she gained throughout the years in her varied interests of church, art, travel, and cards. Her lust for life and appreciation for all that it offered was contagious and inspiring to all those that knew her.

She is survived by her three children, Daniel (“Danny”) Hutton, Jr., Amy Hutton Walker (and husband Jay Walker), and Melinda Hutton Melton (and husband Jeramey Melton); her two grandchildren, Allie Beder and Evan Beder; and her sister, Rita Fawcett and countless nieces and a nephew.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel E. Hutton, M.D.; her father, James Richard Stott and her mother, Allie Mae Anderson Stott; her brothers, James Robert Stott and Leo Stott; and her sisters, Betty LaBass and Lynda Odom.
