Lil MarxA private memorial was held in Monroe, LA, for Lillian Lockhart Marx on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, with Rev. Keith Garvin officiating. Mrs. Marx was born on May 6, 1920, in New Orleans, LA, and passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Lockhart and her husband, Dr. Fred Marx.Lil is survived by her four children, Dr. Don Marx and wife Judy, Peggy Lockhart and her husband Bill, Dr. Robert Marx and his wife Carolyn, all of Monroe, LA, and Meryl Marx of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren, Dr. Daryl Marx and wife Faith, Brian Marx and his wife Victoria, Bonnie Brister and husband Bubby, Tricia Upton and her husband Tim, Stephen Creaghan, Dr. Billy Lockhart, Carolanne Marx, Christopher Marx, and Lauren Beth Slowik; and great grandchildren, Matthew Marx, Nicholas Marx, Madeline Brister, Andrew Brister, Lilly Upton, Kate Upton, Madison Creaghan, Alivia Marx, and Bailey Marx. She was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and played golf with Fred and their many friends. She will be remembered by her children as the best cook of northeast Louisiana. She grew up in Metairie, LA, the second of fourteen children. She graduated from Eleanor McMain High School in Metairie, LA, and received her RN degree from Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She met her husband, Fred there and they were married October, 1943, soon after he returned from WWII. Lil and Fred settled in Monroe where Lil became a homemaker and often right hand nurse to Dr. Fred. Many patients wondered why Dr. Fred was flirting with his nurse. They were married 70 years. She was his silent partner throughout their life, happy to let him be the center of attention while she managed the home. She and Fred established the Lillian L. and Fred A. Marx Endowment Professorship in Biology at ULM. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren and she felt they were her greatest achievement. The family would like to thank the sitters from Senior Care who took wonderful care of Mom and Dr. Fred. They are Ilene Baker, Deborah Singletary, JoAnn Jones, Shannon Slack, Emmanuel Meredith, Don Smith with special gratitude to Karen Adams for her steadfast dedication and devotion. The family would also like to thank James Simmons for 30 years of loyal and loving care. Memorials may be made to Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
