Lillian Colvin 'Tootsie' Banks

July 7, 1931 — April 12, 2015

Lillian Colvin 'Tootsie' BanksMemorial services for Lillian Colvin 'Tootsie' Banks, 83, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, in Monroe, LA, with Dr. Lynn Malone officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 3:00 PM, preceding the service. Mom, the seventh child of Howard and Gertrude Colvins ten children, was born on the seventh day of the seventh month, 1931, in Sikes, LA. She departed this life April 12, 2015. No kinder soul, or more devoted friend, mother, wife, or grandmother ever walked the earth. She always placed others before herself, never complained, and never wanted anything for herself. Her only wants, wishes and worries were for those she loved. Her happiness came from those around her. She took great pride in her flowers and azaleas. She loved to watch things grow, including children and animals. Mom kept a day nursery for years, where she and her loyal friend, Bertha, fed, loved and cared for 40 kids a day. Later, grandkids became her world. While we lost the one who made us what we are, heaven gained the best buttermilk biscuits on the planet (made even better with her homemade fig preserves, not to mention her cornbread dressing, all made from scratch). No one ever went hungry around mom, and certainly none of the pets. Mom was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl, of 67 years, and all of her siblings, save and except the youngest, Jack Colvin, in Amarillo, Texas. She is also survived by her two children, Sedric and Paula of Monroe; grandchildren, Hutton Banks and Harrison Banks and very special loved ones, Ken Slomosky and Wanda and Kyle McConkey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home or to The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Well done, thy good and faithful servant! She ran the good race, earned her heavenly crown, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Online Registry/Condolences: www.mulhearnfuneralhome.comMulhearn Funeral HomeMonroe, Louisiana
