Ludmilla Bellucci McDonald
Mulhearn Funeral Home
Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA
Visitation for Ludmilla “ Milly” Bellucci McDonald, age 80 of New Orleans, LA, will be held at Mulhearn Funeral Home from 4-6 P.M., Thursday, July 3, 2008, with a service following the visitation.  She is survived by two sons:  Brian McDonald and wife Bz of Waco, Texas, and Robert McDonald; one daughter:  Miriam Hinchliffe and husband Hal of Monroe; two brothers:  Louis Bevel and wife Florence of Winnipeg, Canada, and Ivan Bevcic and wife Marica of Storje, Slovenia; five grandsons:  Easton, Ore`, Brian Lawrence McDonald and Holton and Will Hinchliffe.
Milly was born Ludmilla Bevcic in Trieste, Italy, on February 9, 1928 to Karolina and Franc Bevcic.  She met Charlie McDonald while he was stationed in Trieste in 1953.  They married and came to America.  Milly was very proud to receive her GED and American citizenship.  Although a heavy accent could be detected when she spoke English, if asked where she was from, her response would always be “America.  I’m an American.”
The most important gift that Milly gave her children was the love of her culture and the knowledge of her language.  She was born in a small village named Storje which is in the country of Slovenia.  Slovenian was spoken at home as well as Italian, since the Italian border was only about five miles from home.  The Bevcic family has been making Teran wine over 100 years.   It is a wonderful part of our heritage.
Working in Trieste, Italy, was an avenue in which Milly got to express her style in clothing, and she was always complimentary of those who wore fine clothing.  She began collecting jewelry, and it was a fun hobby for her.
Our home in New Orleans was always one that was open to traveling friends.  The dinner table was a place where stories were told and memories were made.
Milly was the family photographer and travel agent.  Seeing the United States was a priority, and then the family traveled abroad.  We never left home without fruit, snacks, and drinks.  It was always an adventure with my family whether we were driving to Canada to see Uncle Louis’ family or going to Destin or Grand Isle.
Milly enjoyed life.  She treasured her family and friends very much.  We loved her and will miss her.  “Zivio”
