Lynn F. Phillips, 59, of Monroe, LA went home to be with the Lord at St. Francis Medical Center on December 30, 2009.  He was born November 8, 1950 in Malvern, AR, and for 31 years, was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman and customer service technician.  In 1996, he was ordained as a deacon and served at South Main Baptist Church in Malvern.  Lynn loved the outdoors, driving tractors, and raising cattle. He served his country for six years in the Army National Guard.   After retiring in June 2000, he and his wife decided to settle in Monroe to be near their beloved grandchildren.  Lynn was a member of Start Baptist Church but enjoyed serving with the Rowland Road Baptist Church Prison Ministry which presented the gospel of Jesus Christ to many prisons throughout northern Louisiana.


 
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, John and Odie Samons Carver and Benjamin and Edith Hendricks Phillips, father, Eric I. Phillips, all of Malvern, one brother, Jimmy Phillips, of Newark, AR and one nephew, Todd Phillips, of Newark, AR.


 
To cherish his memory, his wife of 38 years, Cookie Gilbert Phillips, of Monroe, three daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Jason Shanas of Monroe, Kristi and Craig Lowery of Monroe, and Amanda and JayDe Wright of Malvern.  Five grandchildren, Kristen Wright of Bryant, AR, Lauren and Taylor Shanas, and Andrew Lowery, all of Monroe.  One brother, Danny Phillips of Malvern and his mother, Janet Carver Phillips, all of Malvern.


 
Visitation will be held Friday, January 1, 2010, from 5 to 7 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, with Rev. Glen Alston and  Dr. Joe Turner officiating followed by interment at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy 80.


 
Pallbearers will be Robert and Kelly Gilbert, Danny and Daniel Phillips, Tim Boles, and Al Kelly.  Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Sehon, Carey Etier, and members of the Rowland Road Baptist Church Prison Ministry Team.


 
Memorials may be made to Premier Hospice of Monroe, who lovingly took care of Lynn during his courageous battle with cancer, Start Baptist Church, or the Cancer Foundation League of Northeast Louisiana.
