July 31, 1967 — October 30, 2021

Visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. until time of service at the church. The family requests that those who attend wear something pink, Missy’s favorite color.
Although she wanted to stay here longer, Missy received an offer she couldn’t refuse. God called her home. He needed her more with him.

Missy was born in Norman, Oklahoma on July 31, 1967. Shortly afterwards the family moved to Monroe. She started her education at the Little Red School House, then on to Jack Hayes Elementary/Junior High and graduated from Ouachita High School in 1985. She received a BA from Northeast Louisiana University in Education. She taught at Robinson Elementary from 1996 to 2007 and Riser Elementary from 2007 to present. Her teaching career included Pre-K, Kindergarten and Early Childhood Special Needs. In 2000, Missy was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Robinson and 2012 at Riser.

As important as her teaching was to her, her greatest joy was the birth of her son, Colby Martin Hines in 1996.

Even though Missy held many different types of jobs over the years her love of teaching became her passion. The devotion to educate came from her dad and the creative way she taught came from her mom.

Missy loved her students and worked hard to make sure each child received the best education possible. If a child didn’t have the necessary supplies Missy used her own money to make sure everyone had what was needed. Missy would go to the homes of the kids to make sure parents understood the importance of education. She was not only an educator but a caregiver, tutor and mother hen to all who walked through her door. She may not have been the first to arrive in the morning but was always the last to leave at the end of the day.
Whether it was helping her family, a friend, a student or co-worker or helping to organize a school or church function Missy served with her whole heart.

Not many people knew how much she struggled in fighting the cancer that grew inside her. With the support of her family, friends and her faith in God, she left us very peacefully on Saturday, October 30 at 5:54 P.M.

Missy was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Richard Buck and great-nephew, Gunnar Blalack. She is mourned by her son, Colby Hines; mother, Pat Buck; sister, Kim Curry and husband Phil; niece, Kindra Curry Blalack and husband Travis; uncle, James Priest and wife Judith; cousins, Christina Krag, Katie Staed and husband Patrick; second cousin, Sullivan Staed; bonus mom, Bobbie Buck; bonus sister, Pam Cannon and husband Frank; as well as many more friends and family throughout the communities she touched with the spark of her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Missy’s name to the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation or Pilots for Patients.
