Funeral services for Mickey Shirl Cox, 74 of Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Monroe with Rev. Richard Turnley and Rev. Lynn Malone officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe, LA.Mr. Cox was born October 11, 1941 and passed away in his home on July 5, 2016. He was born in Washington, PA to Margaret Lindsey Cox of Ada, OK who resided in Monroe until her death, and father, Lester Cox, of Hugo OK, who resided in Missouri until his death. Mickey was a member of Memorial Methodist Church in Monroe.Mickey was a Neville High School graduate in 1960, where he was selected as First Team Choice All-American in 1959, and a member of the 1959 State Championship team. He attended Louisiana State University and was a member of LSU Fighting Tigers Chinese Bandits. He was drafted by Oakland Raiders in 1965 and later moved to the San Francisco 49ers.Mickey was and entrepreneur, multi-talented and motivated, having positions in the insurance and construction businesses, a restaurant owner, dairy Farmer, and founder and CEO of Humus Products, LLC. He was the best Big Brother ever, a loving Daddy, son and friend. He was funny, giving, positive, hopeful, innovative and a gentle warrior with a NEVER GIVE UP attitude.Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Lindsey Cox; his father, Lester Charles Cox; former spouse Karen Dupree Cox and grandson, Nick Dunavant.Survivors include his sons Greg Cox, wife Robin and grandsons Craig, Austin and Andrew of West Monroe, LA: Mike Cox, wife Cindy and grandchildren Carlan, Cameron and Tessa of Pittsburgh, TX; daughters Gina McMillan and grandchildren Colt, Ashley and Clint of West Monroe; Barbara Dye and Jennifer Long of Arizona; sisters, Ann Farr and husband, Paul of Monroe, LA and Elaine McGee and husband, Jerry of West Plains, MO; along with many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.Pallbearers will be Jim Love, Sperry Brown, Ad Walker, David Green, Jerry McGee, and Clayton McGee. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Cage, Joe Turner and L.M.
