Ruth Yates LittleFamily and friends will gather at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe, to celebrate the life of Ruth Yates Little at 10:00am, Saturday, August 9, 2014. Her nephew Reverend Bob Yates of Kingsport, TN and Stan Wyant, her pastor at College Place Baptist Church will officiate. Mrs. Little passed peacefully on Sunday, August, 3rd, 2014 at the age of 86. Ruth Yates Little was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on November 18, 1927. Her parents were William Franklin and Elmo Chase Yates. Her brother was Billy Harold Yates, 17 months younger.Ruth attended Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN. Following high school she worked at Kingsport Electric as secretary. She married John Little in November 1948 and moved to Longview, Texas. In Longview, Ruth worked as a secretary for the R. G. LeTourneau Company. On May 16, 1950, Ruth and John’s only child, Hope Little, was born in Longview. The family transferred to Monroe, Louisiana in 1954. Ruth began working for Southwest Gas Production Company as an Executive Secretary to the Vice President, a job she held for 24 years until the company sold in 1979. Ruth went on to work at Northeast Louisiana University as Secretary to the Comptroller. In 1983, Ruth then worked at Ergon Oil and Gas Company until her retirement. Ruth enjoyed being a member at College Place Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, both in Monroe. She loved reading and collecting birds. Ruth Yates Little is remembered as loving, intelligent, caring and strong individual who not only worked hard and long in the business world, but spent many years caring for others – a daughter, a husband, her father and mother, neighbors and NLU students. She was always there to help and volunteer. Ruth volunteered for the Red Cross, ASAP, and served as President of the New Voice Club. She was known for her positive attitude. She was most thankful for her family, church, and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Hope Little Keith, husband, John Thomas Little, brother, Billy Harold Yates, mother, Elmo Chase Yates, and father, William Franklin Yates.She is survived by step-daughter Pat Baxter and her husband, Jim of Fort Smith, AR; her son-in-law William Keith of Atlanta, GA; and two grandchildren who lovingly called her “Nanny”. These include Wes Keith and wife, Jennifer of Baton Rouge, LA and Emily Keith Champion and husband, David of Chelsea, AL. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Jack Wesley Keith and Abby Champion. The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.Visitation will be 9:00am until service time, Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd.
