Funeral services for Opal Beatrice Lord Rogers, 85, of Monroe, LA, will be held in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016, with Robert C. Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Grand St., Monroe, LA.Mrs. Rogers died Wednesday, August 03, 2016, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center, West Monroe, LA. Opal was a member of Baptist Church in Houston, TX, where she taught Sunday school to many young people. Her late husband was a deacon. When her husband retired after 30 years, they moved back to Monroe so she could care for her mother. She loved children, although blessed with no children of her own, and she had a tender heart for all animals. She called animal’s “God’s little critters”. Over the years she rescued many abused animals. Opal has now gone on her trip to her new home in Heaven.Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Grafton Rogers, Jr.; her mother, Lizzie Brazzel; her father Clint Lord; stepfather, Charlie Brazzel; her brother, J.L. Lord; Sisters, Delight Lord Hamilton, and Audrey Lord Compton; and niece Jerrie Lin Hamilton Wilkerson, whom she loved like a daughter.Survivors include her niece, Kitty Kervin; her godson, Robert C.
