Paul H. Goldman was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Jacob and Rose Goldman on August 10, 1912, and he passed away on June 29, 2018.
Paul married Gertie Marie O’Rillion of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on September 12, 1936. He was a pioneer in the radio and television broadcasting business. Mr. Goldman managed radio stations in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, New Orleans, Louisiana, Jackson, Mississippi, and Alexandria, Louisiana, before coming to Monroe, Louisiana, in 1951. Former Louisiana Governor James A. Noe employed Mr. Goldman to manage his radio station in Monroe, and to apply for a Federal License for a television station here. To that end Mr. Goldman was able to put KNOE Television on the air in 1953. He served as KNOE’s general manager until he retired in 1977.
During the time that he was general manager of KNOE TV, Paul served on many local boards and committees, such as The Monroe Council on Ageing, The United Red Cross, Board member and Silver Beaver Award Recipient of the Boy Scouts of Ouachita Parish, Monroe Better Business Bureau, Monroe Kiwanis Club, Regional Health Planning Agency, Monroe Recreation Board and helped organize and served on the board of the O.I.C. (Opportunity Industrialization Center of Ouachita, Inc.). Mr. Goldman was a founding member of the Northeast Louisiana State College (Now ULM) Boosters club and served one term as its president. He also served as an elections commissioner and as a delegate of the 1973 Louisiana Constitutional Convention.
Mr. Goldman is preceded in death by his wife, Gertie Marie O’Rillion Goldman; his oldest son, J. Phillip Goldman of Richmond, Virginia; and his daughter-in-law, Charo A. Goldman also of Richmond, Virginia; his parents, Jacob and Rose Goldman; his sister, Miriam Rosenblatt; and his brother, Jessie Goldman. He is survived by his sister, Rachael Breslow of Las Vegas, Nevada; Phil and Charo’s children, Ana Warden, her husband Alan, Paola McNeil, her husband Matt, Margaret Wilson, her husband Daniel, Peter Goldman, his wife Madeline, and Michael Goldman, his wife Kristin all of Richmond, Virginia; son, Mitchell J. Goldman of Monroe, Louisiana; son, James O. Goldman, his wife Nelia (Candy), Monroe, Louisiana, and their two children, Karen G. Kildron, husband Lance of Orlando, Florida, Kevin P. Goldman of West Monroe, Louisiana, his daughter, Marylin G. Ritter, her husband James (Skeeter), Blountville, Tennessee, and their two children, James Colby Ritter, wife Carole, Portland, Tennessee, daughter, Cassie R. Tadin, husband Jeff, Canton, Georgia; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family service under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, on Monday, July 2, 2018.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Gregory Green, the entire staff of St. Joseph’s Assisted Living Facility, especially, Sister Elizabeth, Michelle, Brandon, and Carrie, Lillie Lauhoff and her sitters, and St. Joseph Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Mr. Goldman.
