Robert Scott Nugent, Sr.

April 1, 1963 — April 5, 2018

Robert Scott Nugent, Sr., 55, of Sterlington, LA, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018. Services are 3:00 PM Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Swartz First Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Hackler and Rev. Aaron Dickinson officiating. Visitation is Sunday, 1:00 PM until service time, at the church. Interment will be in the Hasley Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Scottie was known for his overwhelming kindness and willingness to help anyone at anytime. He loved to talk to people, even those he didn't know. He was always visiting sick friends at home and in the hospital or giving them a call to check on them. Scottie also loved Jesus and tried to live his life honoring God. He was an active member of Sterlington Baptist Church.

He was a graduate of Ouachita Parish High School and after completing trade school was employed at Plymouth Tube for 17 years. He then worked for almost 16 years at the Ouachita Parish School Board in the maintenance department, where he eventually took over the role of Supervisor which he held for the past 4 years. Scottie used his gifts of serving and encouraging others to help the people of the parish school system.

Scottie was a natural athlete. He played sports his whole life and also coached his children’s teams as they were growing up. After his coaching days, he stayed involved in sports as an umpire. Scottie positively influenced countless young athletes throughout his many years as a coach and umpire in the community. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt whatever was in season and spent innumerable days with his kids, brothers and extended family at their deer camp. He loved working in his yard and took pride in keeping his flowers and trees beautifully manicured. He will be greatly missed by so many in the community who were touched by him and by his loving family.

Scottie was preceded in death by his father, Charles Nugent; and his mother, Yvonne Nugent Drummond. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jennifer Nugent; children, Robert “Robbie” Scott Nugent, Jr., Miranda Nugent (Phil Elliott), Parker Mitchell (Sarah), and Maura Smith (Joey); grandchildren, Mitchell Smith and Lucy Mitchell; stepfather, Jim Drummond; brothers, Eddie Nugent (Terrie) and Kenny Drummond (Tanya); uncle, Jim Smith (Ann); aunt, Dolly Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Robby Simmons, Jimmy Simmons, Wade Jackson, Tommy McKoin, Lamar Young, and Steven Hemphill. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the OPSB Maintenance Department.
