Robert Terry Gannaway

A memorial service for Mr. Terry Gannaway, 78 of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Parkview Baptist Church, Monroe, LA, with Bro. Charles Dupree officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe. A celebration of his life will follow the service at the fellowship hall of the church.

Robert T. "Terry" Gannaway was born June 22, 1940, and passed away August 21, 2018, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.

Terry was a lifelong resident of Monroe and a graduate of Neville High School and attended the University of Louisiana of Monroe, formerly NLU. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason, past Master of Graham Surghnor Masonic Lodge #383, Master of the 4th Masonic District Lodge, a founding member of the Twin City Optimist Club, a member of the Red Cross of Constantine and a faithful member of Parkview Baptist Church. Terry also served in the United States Army from 1961-1967 in the 101st Airborne Division. He owned and operated Gannaway Insurance Agency with his wife.

Terry will be remembered fondly by his family and friends for his honesty, integrity and mostly his infectious sense of humor. His favorite pastime was sitting at the 18th St. McDonalds with the gang and telling all of his hilarious stories and solving the problems of the world. He was known as The Mayor of McDonalds. All who knew Terry, knew he had an endless supply of jokes and stories just waiting to be told. When you were in his presence, you knew that laughter would abound. He was also a sports enthusiast and a walking sports encyclopedia and never tired of sharing his knowledge of sports. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in their sports and was their biggest fan. Terry was a proud member of the 1957 Neville High School Basketball State Championship team.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Guy B. Gannaway, Sr. and Carolyn Terry Gannaway; one brother, Guy B. Gannaway, Jr.; and son- in- law, David Taylor.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years, Charlotte McCall Gannaway; his daughter, Renee Gannaway Taylor of Houston, TX; his son, Chan Gannaway of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren, Danielle Gannaway and Joshua Gannaway of Orlando, FL; one brother, Gary B Gannaway and his wife Ginger of Austin, TX; and one sister, Jan Gannaway Blankenship of Prattville, AL. He is also survived by special lifelong best friend, William Ragan; and special friends,Kim and Walker Glenn, III; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Walker Glenn, Ill, Buddy Foster, Ronnie McNabb, Roger Parker, Felton Vickers, Dr. Bill Bateman, and William Ragan.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Floyd Jones, and the staff of Glenwood Regional Medical Center for the special care and attention received.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkview Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
