Travis was a native of the southern Arkansas/northern Louisiana area where he spent the majority of his life. He was born November 18, 1932 at Smith Prairie in Ashley County, Arkansas and passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 in Owasso, OK where he and his wife Sue had moved to be closer to family due to his declining health.

He is preceded in death by his parents Holmes Chavis Bryan and Brady Thelma Carter Bryan; and four brothers and their spouses, Adrian and Wanda Bryan, Max Bryan , Billy and Arlene Bryan and Dale and Peggy Bryan.

Travis is survived by his wife of 59 ½ years, Sue Harris Bryan; his three sons, Tim Bryan of Monroe, LA, Andy Bryan and his wife Girlie of Arizona City, AZ, and Phillip S. Bryan and his wife Laura of Owasso, OK; 6 grandsons, Seth, Matthew, Liam, Aidan, Daniel, Arjay and 4 great-grandchildren.

Travis loved to build and work with his hands from a very young age. This naturally led to his developing an interest in engineering and eventually earning his Mechanical Engineering degree from Louisiana Tech University in 1955 where he was also a member of the Air Force ROTC. Upon completing his degree, he moved to Hartford, Connecticut and was employed by Pratt & Whitney for 9 months before being called up by the Air Force to fulfill his commitment and begin his flight training. Upon completion of his time in the Air Force, Travis took a job with International Paper for whom he worked 13 years at several locations in Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama and Texas. This was followed by a move to Monroe, LA to work for Ford, Bacon & Davis for 20 years and finally RSH Engineering for a short time prior to his retirement.

During Travis’ flight training in the Air Force he was stationed in Laredo, TX and Malden, MO. It was during this time in 1956 that he met his wife to be, Mary Sue Harris. Travis and Sue were married a short time later on May 23, 1957 while stationed at Edwards AFB in California.

Travis had many activities that he was interested in over the years, chief among these was his commitment to his church. While in Monroe, LA where he lived for 41 years, he and Sue were members of North Monroe Baptist Church for over 30 years, Bayou Oaks Baptist Church and New Hope Baptist Church. Travis loved music and always enjoyed being part of the choir, but also, over the years, worked in children’s ministries, youth ministries, Awanas and was an ordained deacon.

In addition to his family and church activities, Travis had many interests and pursued a variety of hobbies: archery, hunting, astronomy, designing and building model planes, photography, painting, sailing, ham radio operating, motorcycle touring, woodworking, making furniture, singing, playing his guitar and harmonica, wrestling with his grandsons and in later years, found particular enjoyment in working with his computer. As was always the case, building was a part of all his hobbies.

Travis accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior early in life, and in recent years as the progression of years took its toll on his body, he looked forward to being united with his Savior face to face. Travis spent the last 16 months of his life in the Evergreen Nursing Home in Owasso, OK being loved on by his wife, family and care givers. Travis became a favorite of the staff at Evergreen and always had an easy smile for everyone he encountered.

We will all miss Travis dearly: husband, father, uncle, cousin and friend. Rest in peace with your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Pallbearers are Seth Bryan, Matthew Bryan, Liam Bryan, Aidan Bryan, Daniel Bryan and Arjay Bryan. Honorary pallbearers are James Wheeler, Sig Gorman, Wayne Huff, Charles Pryor, Don Beech.
