Waurene 'Teet' Hawkins Harrel

Funeral arrangements for Waurene “Teet” Hawkins Harrel, 89, of Monroe, will be held Sunday November 1, 2015, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. The visitation will be at 1:00 PM and the service at 2:00 PM. Minister William Smith will be officiating. Interment will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery after services under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe. Mrs. Harrel died from Leukemia Tuesday morning at 2:17, October 27, 2015, in her home with family around her. Everyone knew Mrs. Harrel as Ms. Teet and knew her for her “gift for gab”. Ms. Teet never knew a stranger, loved people and loved helping people. Her family was her greatest love. She was the middle of five sisters and was born in Blytheville, Arkansas on November 21, 1925. She was previously married and widowed with two children, Bruce Brode and Patricia Brode Lee. She married John A. Harrel (who had also lost his wife) in 1962 and moved to Monroe, Louisiana, with her children and Mr. Harrel’s daughter, Debra Harrel Johnson. Mrs. Harrel had a son after she moved to Monroe, John Brent Harrel. She lived in Lakeshore Subdivision in Monroe for over 50 years where she raised her family, enjoyed tending her flowers, sewing, and visiting her neighbors. She was a member of the University Church of Christ for 50 years. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John A. Harrel; Peggy Hawkins Brumfield (sister); Debra Johnson (daughter), Patricia Brode Lee (daughter) and husband Robert E. Lee, J. Brent Harrel (son) and wife Sherry Gresham Harrel, Bruce Brode (son); Byron Johnson (grandson) and wife Doll Ann Johnson, Brent Johnson (grandson) and wife Jennifer Johnson, John Dupree (grandson), William Brode (grandson); Abigail Harrel, Lydia Harrel, Amelia Harrel, Hattie Brode (granddaughters); Brooklyn Johnson (great-grand daughter); Cameron Johnson, Caden Johnson and Caleb Johnson (great-grandsons); and many nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will Byron Johnson, Brent Johnson, Carlton Gresham, Jerry Gresham, Dennis Romero and Kyle Warner. Honorary pall bearers are Fredrick Shelton, Ben Harrison Sr., Wally Jones, Roy Johns, and David Knickerbocker. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
