William Charles Street

As George Sand once said, “There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved.”, and this an apt description of William Charles “Bill” Street’s life. He loved his faith, his family, and his friends fiercely, and in return was loved by people whose live he touched in so many ways.

Bill was born in Leesville, Louisiana on October 9, 1941 to Justin Eugene Street and Inez Harper Street. He passed from this life on January 6, 2021 at St. Francis Medical Center from complications of the Covid-19 virus.

He was educated at Ouachita Parish schools and later attended high school in Crowville, Louisiana where he was named the Valedictorian of the Class of 1959. A recipient of a Northeast Louisiana State College (now ULM) scholarship, he received his B.S. degree in Business and Accounting. Bill was very involved with the honorary business fraternity, Pi Sigma Epsilon, as well as serving as an officer of the Student Government Association for four years.

Known for his ease in conversation, Bill never met a stranger. He possessed a contagious smile, sparkling eyes, and an entertaining and witty sense of humor. Throughout his life, he maintained a charismatic personality that won the trust and hearts of many!

Recognized for his floral designs, he was asked to use this artistic talent to decorate for many cultural and civic events. His creativity and love of God was expressed through his flower arrangements. Bill was a board member of the Friends of the Monroe Civic Center Theatre. He was a recipient of the prestigious Mary Lee Milam Award presented to him by the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council. He also helped the Monroe Junior League and the Ronald McDonald House with various charity events.

Bill and his wife, Georgia, stayed very active in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where he served on many different church committees, as well as leading Sunday School Classes. He was lovingly known as “Mr. Georgia” when he and his wife co-taught a children’s Sunday School Class. He also loved playing in the St. Paul’s “Ding-a-Ling” handbell choir.

Retired from the Ouachita Parish Clerk of Courts office, Bill found so many ways to celebrate and make the most out of everyday occurrences. Nothing was more important to him than his faith and his family, especially his one true love, his wife of 54 years, Georgia Humphries Street.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Joel Street; and his sister, Elisabeth Street Hatten.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Georgia; sons, W. Michael Street (Jennifer); Christopher Ryan Street (Samantha) of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren, Harper Street; Catherine Street; Emma Street; and his brother, Jimmy Street. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church followed by private family services in St. Paul’s Columbarium. Because of Covid-19 concerns, masks must be worn, and attendees must socially distance themselves.

Honorary Pallbearers are: the men of the Spirit Builders Sunday School Class, Dr. Bob Burgess, Dr. Steen Trawick, Dr. Scott Wiggins, and Tommy Usery.
