Obituary

Art Lou McCullars was born on September 6, 1949, in Marshall, Texas, and passed away on March 26, 2026, in West Monroe, Louisiana, following a lengthy illness. He is now with his Savior in his eternal home in Heaven.

Art’s favorite scripture was, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6. He lived his life as a strong Christian example, leading his children and grandchildren to love the Lord and develop a personal relationship with Him. Another passage that guided his life was Ephesians 3:14–21, Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians.

Art was a perfectionist, and that quality contributed greatly to his success throughout life. He set high standards not only for himself, but also for his family and all who knew him.

Brookshire’s Grocery Company was a central part of Art’s life for over 41 years. He began his career in 1970 as a courtesy clerk at the local Brookshire’s in Marshall, Texas. His dedication and passion for the company led him to rise through the ranks, serving in numerous leadership roles including Market Manager, District 3 Market Supervisor, District 4 Meat & Deli Supervisor, District 5 Grocery Supervisor, Vice President and Director of Meat Operations, and Fresh Supervisor for STARS. After retiring from Brookshire’s, Art and his wife, Brenda, built and operated a Chicken Express restaurant in West Monroe for eight years before his full retirement.

Art loved his country and proudly served as a United States Army veteran. Upon his discharge, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, along with other honors.

He had a deep love for travel, recently sharing a memorable trip to Israel with Brenda. He also enjoyed duck hunting, family vacations, and soccer and band trips with his sons. Art loved cooking and hosting gatherings, where he brought people together around the table. He was known for his immaculate landscaping and elaborate Christmas displays.

Above all, his greatest joy came from the birth and lives of his children and grandchildren.

Art is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; his sons, Ike McCullars and wife Jamie, Ira McCullars and wife Jaime, Matt Jackson and wife Jeannette, and Jeff Jackson and wife Allie. He was affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Saba,” the Hebrew name for grandfather. He deeply loved his grandchildren: Waylon, Everett, Audrey Nell, Eli, Anniston, Derrick, Tyler, Kate, Luke, and Emma.

Art was a devoted member of Fair Park Baptist Church, where he faithfully worshiped twice each Sunday morning—attending the 8:00 a.m. service at the Good Hope Road Campus and the 10:00 a.m. service at the White’s Ferry Road Campus.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at Fair Park Baptist Church on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11:00AM, with his dear friend and pastor, Waymond Warren, officiating. Eulogies will be given by his longtime friends Britt Brookshire, Kenny Aaron, and Mike Pierot. Visitation will be held Monday, March 30, from 9:30AM until service time at the church. Burial with Military Honors will take place at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, Louisiana on Thursday, April 2 at 11:00AM.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Passages Hospice Care, nurse Mary Beth Lord, and his two devoted sitters, Stacy Harris and Keisha Paster, for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fair Park Baptist Church Building Fund.
