Barbara Ann Gray Traweek

Barbara Ann Gray Traweek, of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away peacefully June 7, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was 87 years old.

Born on February 16, 1937, Barbara was raised in Hodge, Louisiana, by her parents Lula and Golden Gray. She was a 1955 graduate of Jonesboro Hodge High School. Barbara attended Louisiana Business College, which further equipped her to achieve what she did best: serve others.

The school is what brought her to Monroe, where she met her soulmate. Barbara and Skeeter crossed paths in 1958 at the skating rink on Walnut Street in downtown Monroe. Enthused to start their life together, they were married within a few months. Excited to start a family, they would go on to have four children. The vigor and passion they shared for one another would be enough to fuel a 56-year marriage. She cherished the younger years with her husband and children, attending baseball games at the Benoit Ballpark. It was a place she made many lifelong friends and memories.

Barbara will be remembered for her kind heart, giving soul, and immense strength. She adored her late husband and loved spending time with her children and their spouses, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In addition to cooking for her loved ones, Barbara also enjoyed gardening and finding garage sale bargains. The family finds solace in the fact that she is being greeted in Heaven by Christ and has been reunited with the love of her life.

Besides being a wife, she took much pride in two other titles: “Momma” and “Memaw.” These were names she answered to the most. Whether it be preparing breakfast for her grandchildren, making a fresh pot of coffee for guests, or staying up all night to make Thanksgiving dinner, Barbara took pleasure in these special moments held dear in her heart.

Survivors include her children: Mickey Traweek and wife Laurie, Rodney Traweek and wife Pam, Todd Traweek and wife Sharon, and Susan Hathaway and husband Wade. She loved her grandchildren: Lauren Voorhees and husband Chris, Lance Traweek and husband Joe Reiss, Adam Traweek and fiancé Harley Price; Blake Traweek, Luke Traweek; Dr. Tanner Traweek, Chelsea Reynolds and husband Ryan; and Cole Hathaway and fiancé Macey Downhour. Great-grandchildren are Clare and Violet Voorhees, and Reese Reynolds.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, James “Skeeter” Traweek, who she took care of until his passing in 2014; parents; sisters, Bessie Durbin and Christine Huckaby; and brother, Bobby Gray.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
