Obituary

Benny M. Heidenreich, affectionately known as Ben, passed away on August 20, 2026, in Monroe, Louisiana, at the age of 95. He was born on July 25, 1931, in McComb, Mississippi. Throughout his long and impactful life, Benny was known for his steadfast dedication to his family, profession, and community.

Benny was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart for over 67 years, the late Frances Marie Heidenreich and the cherished son of Guy M. Heidenreich and Mamie Clyde Denman Heidenreich, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving children: Fran Kennedy and her husband Sput Kennedy, Sonja Etier and her husband Mark Etier, Heidi Zagone and her husband Jeff Zagone, as well as his daughter, Bene’ Harper and her husband Kevin Harper; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Benny also leaves behind his sister, Marretta Pourciau and brother-in-law Sam Shepherd. He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Bill Shephard and Van Shephard.

Professionally, Benny dedicated his career to serving others as a Physical Therapist. His passion for helping people regain their strength and mobility left an indelible mark on countless patients and families. His commitment to his work was matched only by his genuine care for those he assisted.

A proud Navy Veteran, Benny served his country during the Korean War. His service reflected his character—resilient, caring, and always willing to lend a hand where needed most.

Benny was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Monroe, where he found fellowship, faith, and purpose in community service. Friends and residents will fondly remember his regular Friday evening gatherings at the Gardens of Somerset—moments marked by camaraderie and joy.

Benny’s enduring legacy is felt not just by his family but also by those who were fortunate enough to know him through his professional, military, and community endeavors.

Services to honor and celebrate the life of Benny M. Heidenreich will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA 71203. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.
