Obituary

Funeral Services for Benton Henry Moore, Jr., 80, of Winnsboro, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, June 1, 2026, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Louisiana with Rev. Ronnie Ledbetter officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Necessity Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until service time on Monday at the funeral home.

Benton Henry Moore, Jr. was born on July 30, 1945, at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana to the union of Benton H. Moore, Sr. and Clara Gladys Worthey Moore. He passed away peacefully at his residence on May 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Benton accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of eight while attending Trinity Baptist Church in West Monroe. As an adult, he fully surrendered his life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ at Temple Baptist Church. His faith remained the guiding foundation of his life, leading him to faithfully serve both his family and countless others through ministry.

Benton graduated from West Monroe High School in May of 1963. He continued his education at Northeast Louisiana State College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing in January 1968. His love for learning and service later led him to complete a Master’s Degree in Teaching from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in August 2006. He also attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

On July 30, 1968, Benton married the love of his life, Mary Alice Bonner. Together they shared a devoted marriage built upon faith, love, and unwavering commitment.

In January 1968, Benton was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. He faithfully served his country during one tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam from 1969 until 1970. Following his active-duty service, he continued serving in the Louisiana National Guard for eight years as both a platoon leader and company commander.

Benton believed strongly in hard work and dedicated his life to serving others through many different vocations. Beginning as a stock boy at A&P, he later worked as a salesman, farmer, assistant plant manager, retail supervisor, educator, and school board employee. He especially found joy in teaching special education students and investing in the lives of young people. He retired in 2015 as Manager of Transportation and Maintenance.

Called into ministry in 1968 while attending Fort Necessity Baptist Church, Benton faithfully answered God’s call to preach the Gospel. He was licensed into the ministry in April 1999 and ordained in February 2000. Throughout his years of ministry, he served bi-vocationally as pastor of seven churches, including Boeuf River Baptist Church in Rayville, Old Bethel Baptist Church in Clarks, interim pastor of Taylor Bayou Baptist Church in Mangham, Chase Baptist Church, Fort Necessity Baptist Church, Boeuf River Baptist Church in Liddieville, and Calvary Baptist Church in Mangham. Benton’s greatest desire was to lead others to Christ and faithfully shepherd the congregations God entrusted to him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Mary Alice Moore; two sons, Jeffery Moore and wife Stephanie, and Daniel Moore and wife Brandi; a host of grandchildren each special in their own way; Ashley, Aaron, Keira, Brooklyn, Caleb, Hannah, Caitlyn, Kylee, Adrienne, and Gracie. Sister Ginger Rawls.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Moore, Aaron Moore, Lester Action, Bryan Linder, Adam Faulk, and Tracey Bauley.

Psalms 23:

The Lord is My Shepherd, I have not Wanted, He has led me by the still waters and to green pastures, He has fed and nourished me all the days of my life, I have never wanted, He restored my soul, He Led me in the path of righteousness.

I have walked through the valley of the shadow of death, There I have not been afraid or feared no evil, For the Lord, My God has always been with Me. His Rod and Staff have brought me great comfort, protection…peace.

He prepared a table before Me in the presence of My Enemies, He exalted me and anointed My Head with oil, My cup hath runneth over.

God’s Goodness and Mercy have followed Me Always, every day of My Life.

I WILL dwell in the House of the Lord Forever, and Ever.

I give all glory to My God, My Heavenly Father, to My Savior, My Lord Jesus Christ, and to My Comforter, The Holy Spirit who filled Me… leading, guiding, empowering Me to serve in My Father’s Kingdom.

FOR I AM A CHILD OF GOD

FOR WHICH I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL.
