Betty Hopson Elias

A Celebration of Life service honoring the life of Betty Hopson Elias will be held on Sunday, June 29th in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home at 2308 Sterlington Rd, Monroe, LA with Rev. Jon McDerment officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with the service commencing at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Cemetery in Monroe, LA.

Mrs. Elias was born on August 29th, 1942, in Crowville, LA. The daughter of James Rual Hopson, and Jamzie Brantley Hopson. and passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025. She is preceded in death by her adoring husband for over 56 years, George A. Elias, the love of her life.

Betty was a devoted wife and mother. She loved and professed her faith in Christ Jesus faithfully until she met Him in heaven. As a devout Christian, member and servant of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, and the Monroe community, over many years, Betty found joy in service in ministries such as Grace Place ministries, Meals on Wheels, and to OLF Altar Society until she devoted her energy and time to the care of George in the illness of his later years.

Betty’s greatest joy was family. The time she spent, the traditions she built, and the sharing of her faith to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was her greatest joy in life and is her lifelong legacy with them all.

Survivors include: Her children: Rosemary Baker and husband Tim; George C. Elias; Leslie Elias Cheney and husband Todd; and Jason Elias and wife Jennifer.

Her grandchildren: Tyson Baker; Ragan Baker McDerment and Husband Jon; Joshua Baker and wife Jin Lin; Erin Elias Hulsey and husband Danny; Christopher Elias; Brantly Cheney; Morgan Cheney Groshardt and husband Bryce; Hannah Koestler and husband Britton; Elizabeth “Lulu” Elias.

She also leaves her legacy with 13 great grandchildren.She is survived also by 2 of her 4 brothers: James Rual “Tad” Hopson and wife Judy; and Charles Everette “Doodle” Hopson.
