Betty Long Simmons

Betty Long Simmons was born on April 29, 1935, in Monroe, Louisiana to J.D. Long and Lora Griggs Long. She passed from this life and entered into rest on March 10, 2024, in Monroe, Louisiana.

 

Betty was employed for over 30 years in positions that included office manager, bookkeeper, accounting clerk, and credit manager. During her career as a credit manager, she was the first centralized credit manager in the Gulf States region of the Sherwin Williams Paint Company. Prior to holding that position, she was assistant manager in the West Monroe Sherwin Williams store. Her career culminated in 2000 when she retired from Radiology Consultants. During her career, she was an active member of Credit Women's Club of Monroe/West Monroe where she served in numerous leadership positions, including President.

Betty was a member of McGuire Methodist Church in West Monroe and was an active member of United Methodist Women where she served as the district treasurer and was the recipient of the UMW mission award. Her hobbies included crochet, reading, arts and crafts, gardening, and collecting bells and pigs. At one time she had over 1000 "pig" items including figurines, jewelry, clothing, tea pots, and kitchen items that were shaped like pigs.

 

She is survived by four children, Brenda Vick and her husband, Bruce of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Pamela Toland and her husband, Ralph of El Dorado, Arkansas; Billy Duncan Simmons and his wife, Robin of West Monroe, and Paula Bennett and her husband, Jason of West Monroe; grandchildren, Charity Anderson and husband, Tommy, Ryan Simmons, Todd Vick and wife, Carrie, Brandon Simmons and wife, Kate, Matthew Vick and wife, Christina, Joshua Simmons, Peyton Bennett, Kyle Bennett, Kyndell Bennett and Wyatt Bennett; great grandchildren: Nicholas Simmons, Andrea Anderson, Jacob Lavimoniere, BriAnna Toland, Elijah Vick, Riley Vick and, Mia Simmons; brother-in -law Brooks Bolton of Bellville, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. Long and Lora Griggs Long; her husband, Duncan R Simmons, Jr.; her grandson, Richard Toland; her sister, Rita Gail Long Bolton; and her twin brother, Billy Ray Long.

 

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

 

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe, with Shawn Hornsby officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. The visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Wednesday.
