Brenda was born in Monroe, LA, on September 20, 1947, and passed away after a lengthy illness on February 17, 2026.
She remained in Monroe most of her life and attended Neville High School where she was involved in various clubs and activities. She graduated in 1965 and was named Miss Neville High School her senior year.
She went on to receive a degree from Northeast Louisiana University in education with honors. During her college years, she was very involved in Phi Mu Sorority where she went on to serve on national boards. She later returned as the associate alumni director for the university and worked with her beloved 31 Ambassadors.
Ms. Carso was active in many civic organizations including the Jr. League of Monroe, the Monroe Garden Club, and Leadership Ouachita. She was particularly devoted to her church, Jesus the Good Shepherd, where she taught Vacation Bible School, led the Catholic Youth Group, and mentored many families and children converting to the Catholic faith.
Ms. Carso also known as “Sweetie” spent more than 20 years as an educator, most of those years being at St. Frederick High School where she taught religion. This was one of her greatest accomplishments. She loved the students and the students loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Margaret Carso and sister, Marilyn Carso.
Sweetie’s survivors include her son, Allen Otts of Monroe; daughter, Carrie Otts Rocconi and husband, Matt of Monroe, and niece, Molly Cubelo and husband, Rob of Monroe. She also leaves behind the joys of her life, her grandchildren, Margaret “Maggie” Rocconi, Luke Rocconi, and Lily Rocconi; her great nieces, Mary Claire Pleasant, Lauren Pleasant, and Caroline Pleasant; along with a host of cousins, loved ones, and friends.
The family would also like to recognize Ms. Cathy Barr. Ms. Cathy became part of the family and one of Sweetie’s best friends and trusted caregivers during her last few years. Thank you also to the Memory Care staff at The Gardens at Georgia Tucker for their compassion, dedication, and support.
Her pallbearers will be St. Frederick students, James Peter Guerriero, Luke Leaumont, Michael Malloy, Layton O’Quinn, Harrison Rutz, and Andrew Trahan. Honorary pallbearers will be George Carso, Sam Corso, Walter LaRose, Bob Spatafora, and Ken Vincent.
