Funeral services for Cecil Thomas "Trey" Janway III, 44, of Lafayette, Louisiana, will be held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, January 14, 2024, at First Methodist Church of Monroe with Rev. Brian Mercer and Dr. Mark Fenn officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe. The visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until time of service.
Trey was born May 31, 1979 in Houston, Texas to his parents, Tom and Roz Janway.
He transitioned from labor to rest at Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Wendi Janway Jones; his paternal grandparents, Reverend Cecil and Ollie Janway, and his maternal grandmother, Peggy Whatley.
Trey accepted Jesus Christ at the early age of six. He was baptized in water by his grandfather, Reverend Cecil T. Janway, Sr. in Woodworth, Louisiana at the Assembly of God campground. He was a member of First Methodist Church in Monroe, Louisiana.
Trey graduated from West Monroe High School in 1997. He was a standout football player and voted “Most Congenial” by his classmates. He was also a member of the school yearbook committee, and very active in his youth group. After high school, he attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana, and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He also attended The University of Louisiana at Monroe. Additionally, before his brain hemorrhage, Trey was a straight “A” student at Louisiana Delta Community College.
Trey was loved by many. To know him was to love him. He had an amazing personality and a spirit of love. He genuinely loved life and was able to travel all around the world. Trey lived in England, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia. He also toured Western Europe and Asia extensively.
Trey loved the outdoors. His all-time favorite hobby was deer hunting with his dad. He even won a bronze medal in the Junior Olympics in Saudi Arabia in the freestyle swimming category for six and seven-year-olds.
Trey was considered a prayer warrior. In spite of his own limitations, he was called on to pray for many. He was the true definition of a gentle giant and a servant of Jesus Christ!
